Quenching Your Appetite
Finding fulfillment in the food and wine community
You quench a thirst but sate an appetite. Since I love the world of food and wine, I decided to mash them up. What I love even more than the food or wine itself is our constantly evolving, deeply passionate culinary community. I started blogging in 2008 because I loved cooking and my friends encouraged me to share my recipes. In 2009, I was invited by Addie Broyles, a former Austin American-Statesman food writer, to join a local food writing group. I remember calling my sister after one of our first food blogger potlucks and telling her, “I found my people,” to which she replied, “Finally”.
Over the years, that community expanded to include chefs, sommeliers, farmers, makers, and hospitality professionals. I had the opportunity to meet people who have fed Central Texas for decades and was so grateful to share their stories with my followers and the readers of Edible Austin, Austin Woman Magazine, and CultureMap. Then, in 2021, I stopped writing. I received a promotion at work, and it became too difficult to balance interview schedules with the demands of my new role.
Recently, a chef friend spoke to our team at work. As he told the story of starting his food trailer and growing his business into a nationally recognized restaurant, he reminded me how much our culinary community means to me and how much I miss telling those stories. He inspired me to reconnect with the community I love so dearly.
So, here we go. Thanks for joining me on this adventure to quench your appetite.
